Vendicari Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful places in the South of Sicily. The Arabs called it ‘La Valle del sogno’ (The Valley of Dreams). It is a real oasis of peace and rest for numerous species of bird life which populate the reserve during the year. Thousands of migrating birds pass a few days here on their way to or from Africa. Flamingos, cormorants, storks and herons sojourn here during the autumn and in the winter ducks, mallards, pintails and terns are regulars.
With its beautiful sandy beaches, it is also a welcoming place for anyone who is tired of city chaos and wants to take refuge in the emotions that only nature can convey. Sunbathers and swimmers will be amazed at the choice of quiet enclaves. The beaches in Vendicari are not only among the most beautiful on the island, but the least populated…by humans!
The nature reserve is also a walker’s paradise. A stroll through the reserve will also allow you to enjoy Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Arabic archaeological remains.
